For years, Everybody Has a Story to Tell was one of The Today Show’s most heartfelt and celebrated segments, transforming the everyday experiences of ordinary people into musical tributes that resonated with audiences across the nation. Created by Kathie Lee Gifford, this feature brought together talented songwriters and vocalists to turn deeply personal stories into original songs—moments of joy, perseverance, and hope set to music.
I had the privilege of coordinating guest logistics for the segment’s 100th and final installment, a milestone that marked the end of an era for this beloved tradition. This last tribute honored Mary O’Connor, a waitress whose selfless act of kindness—donating a kidney to a complete stranger—was a testament to the profound generosity and goodness that the series had always sought to highlight.
Bringing this final story to life required seamless coordination behind the scenes, ensuring that the right voices, the right moments, and the right emotions all came together for a powerful, unforgettable farewell. (I always have newfound appreciation for morning television personalities and production crews each time I find myself on one of their gigs... it's not easy to show up to work THAT early in the morning. Mad props to all morning television workers!)
Working alongside Kathie Lee and the Today Show team to close out such an iconic segment was not just a career highlight—it was a meaningful reminder of why storytelling through music has such a lasting impact.
As the final notes faded, it was clear that Everybody Has a Story to Tell had left an indelible mark—not just on the guests who shared their journeys, but on the millions who watched, felt, and connected with them. It was an honor to be part of this chapter, helping to craft a send-off worthy of the stories that had touched so many lives.
